PHOTOGRAPHY: COURTESY OF NOVALASH master class GET SMART NOVALASH A pioneer in American eyelash extensions, NovaLash offers intensive one-day training and certifi cation in both classic and American Volume lash application in more than 50 U.S. cities and 40 countries worldwide. Developed by physicians, each eight-hour course covers hands-on application, scientifi c facts surrounding the procedure, health and safety guidelines, and time-saving techniques. Classes are small, and NovaLash provides ongoing support, including access to marketing materials. Eight-hour Basic Training ($1,203.50 plus $20 shipping) includes a training manual, the NovaLash Business in a Box and free access to a refresher course within six months of the original class. Eight-hour American Volume Advanced Training ($1,275) includes a training manual, Platinum Bond Speed Dry adhesive, volume lashes and other products used during the class. (This course is open only to lash artists who have been applying lashes for at least six months and can complete a full set of classic lashes in two hours or less.) Upon completion of a class, trainees must pass written and practical skills tests to receive certifi cation. Once certifi ed, stylists become eligible for inclusion in the NovaLash online stylists directory (pending approval of three before- and-after photos of their work). ➻ novalash.com eye ON EDUCATION This suggests the client's natural lashes are cycling properly. ➜ EXPLAIN that this is normal and a new extension will be applied to the incoming natural lash on the next fi ll appointment. ➜ ASK THE CLIENT, "When you see the extension after it has fallen out, is your natural lash attached to the extension?" ➜ IF THERE IS ADHESIVE left behind on the extension, then the adhesive needs to be replaced. YES YES NO NO troubleshooting lash fallout When you get a call from a client who is losing lashes shortly after receiving a service, some detective work is in order. Laura Wills Mitchell, executive vice president and director of trainers at Minkys Eyelash Extensions, suggests asking the client these questions to get to the root of the problem. ➜ NO VISIBLE TRACES of adhesive on the extension suggests that a product the client uses at home has broken down the adhesive enough to release it from the natural lash. This indicates the extension has detached from the natural lash. ➜ ASK THE CLIENT, "Can you see any adhesive residue on the extension?" 28 eye | la | JULY/AUGUST 2016 | eyelashmag.com
