14 eye | la | MAY/JUNE 2017 | eyelashmag.com private eye INSIDE STORY Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian West have been spotted rocking bleached brows, and the booming trend has caught on rapidly in the makeup community and on the runways—making it ripe for your salon (if, that is, it's legal to bleach brows in your state; check with your state board to be on the safe side). With over 5 million followers on social media, beauty infl uencer Patrick Starrr (@PatrickStarrr) experiments with the hottest trends in beauty to make his Instagram and YouTube pages a landing zone for fresh inspiration. We recently caught up with Starrr, who underwent his own eyebrow-bleaching transformation via makeup artist Steven Tabimba, to share client-side insights on the process. "At fi rst, seeing myself without makeup and sporting nearly invisible brows, I was shocked!" he laughs. "After the completed look, though, I must say I was totally in love." —Breanna Armstrong Lighter Than Life INFLUENCER TESTED: CHECK OUT TABIMBA'S BROW-BLEACHING STEP-BY-STEPS PLUS MORE IMAGES OF STARRR AT EYELASHMAG.COM! PRO TIP: Your clients will see brow roots pretty quickly, so maintenance can be intense. Depending on brow growth, monthly visits may be in the cards. THE TREND | Full-on bleached brows tend to be a more editorial, high-fashion look, according to Starrr. "It totally changes the look and mood from beauty to edgy," he says. WHY IT'S GOT BUZZ | "You're taking a main facial feature like brows, and you are giving it new life," he theorizes. "Also, bleached brows on medium to dark skin tones soften features." PROCESS TIME | 35 minutes, including bleaching and toning. The try-before-you-buy approach doesn't quite work with strip lashes—but virtual apps are ready to take your clients one step closer to experiencing their potential purchase. The new mobile app Lash Wardrobe by KISS allows users to apply 50 different styles of KISS lash styles to their selfi es, giving them opportunities to tweak the positioning for the perfect fi t. Additionally, the app includes product tutorials and application techniques so that you can send her home without worry. "We wanted women to have the ability to fi nd a lash style that best suits their eye shape and desired look in the most convenient way possible," says Annette DeVita-Goldstein, senior vice president global marketing at KISS Products.
