26 eye | la | JULY/AUGUST 2017 | eyelashmag.com business plan WHAT WORKS 1 | Implement Quarterly Staff Volunteering Each quarter, gather your staff and spend an afternoon volunteering together. Whether you volunteer at the same organization each time or decide to take turns picking the volunteer site, quarterly volunteering provides a consistent mode of giving back without requiring an overwhelming commitment. 2 | Run Collection Drives at Your Studio Reach out to nonprofi ts in your area and fi nd out what supplies or other donations they need. Then, set up a collection area at your studio and advertise your collection drive via social media. Ideas for drives include school supplies, new and gently used winter coats during the cold months, or new socks, undies and personal toiletry items for a local women's shelter or halfway house. 3 | Sponsor a Family During the Holidays Most major cities have programs where you can sign up to sponsor an underprivileged family over the holidays, providing them with Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner as well as gifts they wouldn't otherwise be able to enjoy. This can be a bit cost-prohibitive for an individual, but if your entire staff chips in to split the costs, you'll be able to easily sponsor a family, bond as a staff and help cheer up a deserving family during the holiday season. 4 | Participate in Look Good Feel Better Lend your esthetician or cosmetology skills and training to nonprofi t Look Good Feel Better (lookgoodfeelbetter.org), which helps women undergoing chemotherapy look their best and regain some of their confi dence during this diffi cult time. 5 | Host a Charity Party with a Raffl e If you or someone on your staff loves to plan and host parties, a charity party with a raffl e can be a successful way to give back. You can have a raffl e with donated prizes (including a complimentary lash fi ll or set for a lucky winner), with all proceeds from the cover charge and raffl e tickets going to the charity of your choice. Banding together with other local businesses can make this party even more successful and a bit easier to host. A less time-consuming (but still meaningful) spin on this is to donate gift cards for your studio to a charity event that's already taking place. —Erika Gallagher, owner of Lashology Lash & Beauty Studio, Denver and Glendale, Colorado Get In on Giving Back Looking to give back to your community, but not sure how to start the process with your brow or lash business?
