48 | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2017 | eyelashmag.com Backstage Beauty: BLOCKED VIEW DESIGUAL VERSUS VERSACE LEONARD LUTZ HUELLE EMILIO DE LA MORENA PRABAL GURUNG PRABAL GURUNG At Desigual, makeup artist Maud Laceppe creates an ultra-straight rectangle using MAC Chromaline in Basic Red and MAC 212 Flat Defi ner Brush. The statement-making eyelid has come into full view this season with color blocked in arresting rectangles, squares and tricolor rainbows. When makeup artist Lucia Pieroni envisioned a tough-yet-cool girl at Versus Versace, she slashed a wide horizontal stroke of either green, indigo, aqua or blinding orange from the bridge to the temple, leaving the ends faded to perfection. At Prabal Gurung's show, makeup artist Diane Kendal argued that her ROYGBIV of fl oating arcs were meant to be worn by an "empowered woman—someone who is doing it all on her own"—though, let's be honest, perfecting the razor-sharp edges of the shapely design might take a team of pros. While Pieroni and Kendal created Xeroxed copies of one design in various colors, makeup artist Naoko Scintu combined three hues into one block party at Emilio de la Morena: Stacked arches of cyan, white and either red or orange made for one of the most talked-about makeup looks of the Fall 2017 season. Though many face painters opted for cream shadows to realize their bold blocks, powder shadow also played a role, allowing a more diffused realization of the trend. Whatever pigment formulation you choose, just block it!
